A Longer, Happier Life Starts with routine wellness care.

What Love Deserves Wellness and preventive care are at the core of everything we do at Family Veterinary Care of Oakdale. We focus on proactive—rather than reactive—care to help you keep your four-legged friend healthy for years to come. Each preventive care service is tailored to your pet’s species, breed, life stage, and lifestyle.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations protect your pet against serious, potentially life-threatening diseases and keep the human community safe by preventing zoonotic disease transmission. Vaccinations for your dog may include:

Distemper combination

The distemper combination, which protects against distemper, infectious hepatitis, parvovirus, and parainfluenza is a core vaccine for dogs.
  • Distemper — This disease attacks the respiratory and nervous systems, and is often fatal.
  • Hepatitis — Infectious hepatitis is caused by a virus that attacks the liver, and can lead to liver failure if not treated promptly.
  • Parvo — Parvo is a highly contagious disease that causes severe vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration, and is often fatal in puppies.
  • Parainfluenza — The parainfluenza virus is one cause of kennel cough in dogs.

Rabies

This legally required vaccine protects dogs and cats against the nearly 100% deadly rabies virus. +

Bordetella

Bordetella bronchiseptica is a bacteria that often causes kennel cough. The bordetella or kennel cough vaccine is recommended for social dogs or those who go to boarding or grooming facilities. +

Canine influenza

Canine influenza is a potentially serious respiratory infection that can lead to pneumonia. Like bordetella, the canine influenza vaccine is recommended for dogs who are frequently exposed to other dogs. +

Lyme disease

The Lyme disease vaccine protects against one of several tick-borne diseases and vaccination is recommended for dogs with frequent tick exposure. +

Leptospirosis

The leptospirosis vaccine, which protects against a bacterial disease spread through wildlife and rodent urine, is recommended for most dogs. +

Rattlesnake

The rattlesnake vaccine can help your dog survive a rattlesnake bite and is recommended at least one month before potential exposure. +

Vaccinations for your cat may include:

Feline distemper combination

The feline distemper combination, which protects against feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia, is a core vaccine for cats.
  • Feline viral rhinotracheitis (FVR) — FVR, which is caused by a herpesvirus, causes a respiratory infection in cats that can lead to lifelong problems.
  • Calicivirus — Calicivirus also causes respiratory infections in cats, as well as painful oral ulcers and joint problems.
  • Panleukopenia — Panleukopenia causes a highly contagious gastrointestinal disease in cats that is often fatal.
+

Rabies

This legally required vaccine protects dogs and cats against the nearly 100% deadly rabies virus. +

Feline leukemia virus

The feline leukemia virus can cause immunosuppression, blood cell deficiencies, and cancer in affected cats. This vaccine is recommended for all kittens and indoor-outdoor adult cats who may encounter other cats. +

Parasite Prevention All pets, including those living exclusively indoors, are at risk for internal and external parasite infestations. Not only can parasites damage your furry pal’s health, but they can also transmit deadly diseases. Our veterinary hospital offers safe and effective parasite preventives for every pet’s need, including long-lasting products for fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites. Wellness Examinations Wellness visits offer our veterinarians the opportunity to examine your pet from head to tail to identify and address early disease signs, such as arthritic joints, lumps and bumps, or dental issues. We recommend that we check adult pets at least annually and senior pets at least twice per year. Family Veterinary Care of Oakdale
